Luis Suárez scores as Inter Miami beat Atlético Nacional 2-1 in Medellín

Inter Miami claimed a 2-1 friendly win over Atlético Nacional in Medellín on Feb. 1, 2026, with Luis Suárez on the scoresheet and Germán Berterame making his first appearance; Lionel Messi played 76 minutes and a late own goal sealed the victory.

Atlético Nacional opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Juan Manuel Rengifo fired a long-range shot past the goalkeeper, rewarding the hosts' early dominance.

Inter Miami responded after halftime: Messi’s shot struck the post and Suárez reacted quickest to score the equaliser.

Suárez was substituted shortly after his goal for Berterame, who wore No. 19 and immediately showed promising chemistry, creating Miami’s best attacking moves and setting up Mateo Silvetti, whose shot narrowly missed. Messi orchestrated several key moments before exiting to a standing ovation, and the winner came in stoppage time when Elkin Rivero turned the ball into his own net.

The victory served as a confidence boost for Javier Mascherano’s squad after a preseason loss to Alianza Lima; Inter Miami will continue preparations in Ecuador, facing Barcelona SC on Feb. 7 where Messi, Berterame, Suárez and Rodrigo De Paul can further build chemistry.
