LumenTale devs say dismissing Pokemon comparisons would be hypocritical
The developers behind LumenTale: Memories of Trey aren’t dismissing Pokemon comparisons, noting that when people hear "creature-collecting RPG" the first example that comes to mind is often Pokemon. Paolo Lella, CEO of Beehive Studios and the game's lead developer, told GamesRadar+ that while LumenTale might look familiar, it isn’t aiming at the exact same target.
The similarities are visible: the pocket monsters are called Animon, the Steam page promises over 140 species and 13 elemental types, and players can take creatures into turn-based battles across the single-player story or in PvP matches. LumenTale also introduces distinct mechanics, including 4v4 battles alongside traditional one-on-one fights to encourage team synergy, a stronger emphasis on cooking and crafting, and "The Anispace" — a room for decorating and bonding with creatures.
"So, we feel that it's not to be considered a competitor, but much more like an alternative," Lella says.
