The Justice Department’s release of files connected to Jeffrey Epstein has continued to unsettle officials and institutions. Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s longtime associate, refused on Monday to answer questions before the House Oversight Committee. The latest revelations have sent shock waves through Hollywood, Washington, Europe and the Middle East and briefly jolted Britain’s gilt and foreign exchange markets.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has faced increasing calls to resign after details showed he had more extensive ties to Epstein than previously disclosed. “Lutnick has no business being our commerce secretary, and he should resign immediately,” Senator Adam Schiff said.

Representative James Comer, the Republican chairman of the House Oversight Committee, did not rule out issuing a subpoena to compel Lutnick to testify. Casey Wasserman has come under pressure after decades-old flirtatious messages with Maxwell surfaced.
