Macy dies as Firehouse 51 members fight for their lives in crossover

The three-part One Chicago crossover opened with Firehouse 51, the Intelligence Unit and the FBI responding to a commercial flight that went dark. When firefighters breached the plane they found more than 150 passengers and crew dead from a mysterious toxic chemical, turning the incident into a large-scale hazmat emergency and exposing first responders to the toxin.

Lt. Joe Cruz volunteered to enter the aircraft with rookies Macy and Holt; they discovered the nightmarish scene and were rushed to hospital for decontamination after Cruz pulled a frozen Macy to safety. After Severide found one surviving passenger — a third-trimester pregnant woman — he brought her to paramedics Violet Mikami and Lizzy Novak.

Federal containment stalled their ambulance, the passenger went into labor, Novak’s mask was knocked off and blood sprayed on her; Dr. Hannah Asher performed an emergency C-section, the baby survived and the mother did not, and Novak, Violet, Hannah, Macy and Holt were quarantined at Gaffney.
