Made in Abyss sequel film Awakening Mystery due fall 2026

Made in Abyss will continue as a film franchise with a new movie titled Awakening Mystery set for a fall 2026 release. A trailer shared on Feb. 8 samples scenes from the earlier seasons and offers a brief preview of what’s to come, all scored by a haunting musical theme.

The main staff from studio Kinema Citrus are returning to the production, and the previous voice actors will reprise their roles. The series previously aired two seasons, in 2017 and 2022, and was followed by a 2020 film. The story takes place around a colossal chasm known as the Abyss, which hides artifacts, strange creatures and deadly secrets.

Cave Raiders descend into its layers but suffer the Abyss Curse when they try to return, with the curse growing more lethal the deeper they go. The protagonist, Riko, is an orphan following in the footsteps of her mother, a legendary White Whistle who apparently died after reaching the Abyss’s bottom.
