Major characters in the new Dune: Part Three trailer

The teaser for Dune: Part Three is dense and set to another dramatic score by Hans Zimmer. As the conclusion to Denis Villeneuve’s trilogy, the first look packs many new characters and plot points that will be clearer to readers of Dune Messiah. Anya Taylor-Joy returns as Alia Atreides, who first appeared in Dune: Part Two when Paul spoke with a future version of his sister after drinking the Water of Life.

Lady Jessica was pregnant with Alia when she became a Fremen Reverend Mother, and the ritual passed similar powers to the child; now a young adult, Alia will help maintain Paul’s rule. The trailer opens with Chani (Zendaya) and Paul (Timothée Chalamet) naming their future children Leto and Ghanima, suggesting a reconciliation after Chani’s departure at the end of Part Two; the twins are played by Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke.

Villeneuve plans to step away after this film, but Leto II and Ghanima are the leads of Frank Herbert’s Children of Dune, set nine years after Dune Messiah.
