Major copper foil supplier raises prices by 12%, threatening PCB costs
Mitsui Kinzoku, a leading supplier of copper foil for printed circuit boards, has notified customers of a 12% USD price increase on all MicroThin copper foil products, set to take effect in April 2026. Mitsui holds close to a 90% share of the high-end circuit foil market and has shifted production to better serve AI customers, a move that has tightened supply for the wider market.
Other producers are following suit: Mitsubishi Gas Chemical announced a 30% price rise across several products, including resin-coated copper foil, also due in April. Copper-clad laminate (CCL) suppliers have been dealing with rising material and processing costs since last year, and manufacturers in China account for roughly 80% of production capacity, which amplifies tariff-related anxieties.
AI demand has doubled copper foil consumption, and policy-driven shifts in the US market prompted a large import surge and stockpiling, yet futures prices have remained elevated amid bullish investors.
