Man City 1-0 Leeds: Semenyo and Cherki dazzle as City close gap on Arsenal
Manchester City moved to within two points of Premier League leaders Arsenal with a 1-0 win at Leeds United. The visitors were without Erling Haaland, who pulled out of the fixture with a minor injury, and ended Leeds' 25-game unbeaten run in evening matches at Elland Road.
Leeds started strongly and should have led inside three minutes after Marc Guehi fell under a challenge from Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but no foul was given and Brenden Aaronson's cross for an unmarked Calvert-Lewin was stabbed wide. Gianluigi Donnarumma kept out a quick counter and, moments later, Karl Darlow made two instinctive saves to deny Nico O'Reilly.
With the final kick of the first half, Rayan Cherki's pass found Rayan Ait-Nouri, whose low cross set up Antoine Semenyo to tap in. After the break City came close through Omar Marmoush and Ruben Dias' play, while Darlow tipped away a Guehi header; Leeds threatened late when Jaka Bijol headed narrowly wide, but City held on.
