Man Identified After Body Found on Wolverhampton School Grounds
People reports West Midlands Police identified the man found on the grounds of Smestow Academy in Wolverhampton as 45-year-old Neil Thompson.
Police said Thompson was discovered at approximately 7:15 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 19, and was found with injuries; his cause of death remains unknown. In a statement, authorities said, "We are continuing to treat his death as unexplained and are working to establish exactly what happened, with CCTV being reviewed and door to door enquiries being carried out." A parent told U.K. newspaper The Telegraph that his 11-year-old daughter made the discovery during P.E. and was "really shaken up."
Thompson was last seen on Wheatsheaf Road at around 1 a.m. on Monday wearing a camouflage jacket, grey gilet, jeans and a beanie, and carrying a red rucksack; he may have been wearing sunglasses, police said. Detective Chief Inspector Phil Poole urged anyone who saw the victim in the early hours to get in touch, and Wolverhampton Police said investigators are supporting Thompson’s family and that neighbourhood officers are in the area to offer reassurance. Thompson’s family described him as "our beautiful son, brother, father and friend Chuck" and asked anyone with information to come forward.
