A man was shot dead by police in Potts Point, Sydney, after allegedly entering a unit block on St Neot Avenue and assaulting two women. Officers from Kings Cross command were called at about 10.50am on Tuesday. Responding police deployed a Taser but it was ineffective.

The man reportedly threatened officers with a weapon before an officer fired a single round; NSW Ambulance paramedics later confirmed he had died at the scene. The two women, aged 48 and 56, were taken to St Vincent’s hospital with non-life-threatening head and facial injuries.

NSW Ambulance superintendent Stewart Clarke said paramedics made extensive attempts to save the man on the stretcher but he succumbed to his injuries. Clarke said one woman had “quite significant head and facial injuries” but was conscious and stable, while the other’s injuries were more superficial.
