Man Utd fans unfurl pro-immigration banner featuring seven club heroes
Manchester United supporters unfurled a pro-immigration banner at Old Trafford before the second half of a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace that moved the team to third in the Premier League with 51 points. The banner read: “MUFC proudly colonised by immigrants,” and pictured seven club figures — Eric Cantona, Patrice Evra, Park Ji-sung, Bruno Fernandes, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Amad Diallo and Casemiro — as a rebuttal to remarks by part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and a reminder of the club’s diverse heritage.
The display followed a February interview in which Ratcliffe said: “You can’t have an economy with nine million people on benefits and huge levels of immigrants coming in. I mean, the UK has been colonised. It’s costing too much money,” and added: “The UK has been colonised by immigrants, really, hasn’t it?
I mean, the population of the UK was 58 million in 2020, now it’s 70 million.
