Goal reports Manchester United players have taken to social media to thank Ruben Amorim and wish him well after he was sacked in an early-morning meeting with club bosses. United dismissed Amorim after 14 months following what the report describes as an explosive breakdown in relations with the club hierarchy.

Tensions reportedly boiled over after the draw with Leeds, when Amorim urged to be called the "manager," not just the "head coach," and openly criticised director of football Jason Wilcox. The club, currently sixth in the Premier League, said the decision was made "reluctantly" but was necessary to "give the team the best opportunity" for a higher finish; Amorim leaves with the lowest win rate of any permanent United manager in the Premier League era and a tenure marked by a problematic 3-4-3 system.

While many squad members sent well wishes, two notable absentees were Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez. The report says Amorim and Mainoo had a difficult relationship over tactics and playing time, with Mainoo often left on the bench and a reported "shouting match" at the training ground; Mainoo's family and former players publicly criticised his treatment, and his half-brother was recently spotted wearing a "Free Kobbie Mainoo" t-shirt.
