Mandoverse crossover movie appears to have missed its window
Disney announced a Mandoverse culmination film during its December 2020 Investor Day, promising a team-up of The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett and the now-canceled Rangers of the New Republic (replaced by Skeleton Crew). At the time fans were excited, but six years on there is still no release date and lukewarm responses to entries like The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka and The Mandalorian Season 3 have dulled that enthusiasm.
Lucasfilm had planned to center the crossover on Grand Admiral Thrawn, calling to mind a Star Wars version of The Avengers. The problem has been timing: long gaps between installments and a six- to eight-year wait since the announcement have eroded momentum, and industry comparisons suggest such culmination events usually arrive within a four- to six-year window.
Disney shifted course after a series of 2023 box office disappointments, converting planned Disney+ seasons into feature films and vice versa.
