Marathon seasons explained

Seasons in Marathon will feel familiar to players of live-service games but come with their own twists. Each season runs for about three months and delivers free content—new gear, runner shells, zones, events and more. A new battle pass arrives every season and remains permanent so players can continue unlocking rewards after a season ends.

Updates also include balance changes, and progressing through a season unlocks additional armory upgrades and equipment. Progress resets with each new season: inventory, player level, and contract and faction progress are wiped, while cosmetics, achievements and codex progression carry over.

Every season will follow a distinct theme and offer a unique combination of features, content and story. Season 1, subtitled "Death is the First Step" or "First Step," began at launch and frames a new gold rush on Tau Ceti.
