Marathon update adds Cryo Archive end-game map, access unclear

Marathon is in its second week out and Bungie has released the game’s biggest patch yet. The update brings a range of fixes and tweaks, and its headline addition is a new end-game map called Cryo Archive. The map is live in the game and presumably filled with valuable salvage, but no one is sure how to access it yet.

As Bungie has done before, Cryo Archive appears to require solving an ongoing ARG to unlock access. Players have spent the last week working through puzzles and finding videos, though for many the next phase may simply arrive the moment they log in. Even after Cryo Archive opens, access will be gated: players must be level 25 and have unlocked every Faction.

Bungie has already made some welcome changes to the base game. The WSTR Combat Shotgun has been nerfed, the bug that unequipped knife cosmetics has been fixed, and UESC dropships bringing in supplies will no longer clip through the map or kill players on arrival.
