Marc Guehi baffled by boos from Liverpool fans after Anfield win
Marc Guehi said he was baffled by the boos he received from Liverpool supporters during Manchester City’s dramatic win at Anfield, where he played a key role in ending the club’s 23-year wait for a victory in front of the Kop. The England international, who joined Pep Guardiola’s side in a big-money move in January, was jeered every time he touched the ball but helped City navigate a chaotic encounter to take all three points.
He laughed when asked about the reception: "Yeah, I'm not sure why, to be honest. But I can't control what their fans think of me. I'm just grateful to our fans for sticking by me and supporting me the whole game." Tasked with playing out from the back against a relentless high press, Guehi said the focus must always be on the next action.
Guehi admitted he only realised the full historical significance after the final whistle, saying, "I actually didn't know that at all." The win was the first at Anfield with supporters present since 2003, making it a cathartic result for the travelling support.
