María Corina Machado, the Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel laureate, will publish a book in the United States next month, her U.S. publisher said. The book, titled "The Freedom Manifesto," is being released by Regnery, a conservative imprint at Skyhorse Publishing. It was written before the U.S.

military raid that captured Nicolás Maduro. Publication was initially planned for Feb. 3 but has been pushed back to add new material addressing the recent political upheaval, Tony Lyons, the publisher of Skyhorse, said; he added the house is "rushing" to get the book printed and into bookstores as soon as possible, and perhaps as early as next month.

The 120-page book, according to a description on Skyhorse's website, lays out Machado's proposals for "a 'new era' for a Venezuela without its dictator Nicolás Maduro" and draws from interviews with Venezuelans who have suffered under Maduro's regime. The publisher's summary says Machado argues the government must guarantee "the right to security, freedom of expression, freedom of assembly and association," that the private sector and economy need to be rebuilt to benefit citizens, that emigrants should return, and that members of Maduro's government should be brought to justice for "crimes against humanity." A former legislator and longtime political activist nicknamed the "Iron Lady," Machado was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize last year for leading an electoral challenge against Maduro.
