Mariah Carey Sings in Italian, Hits Sky-High Whistle Note

The Milan Cortina Olympics Opening Ceremony at Milan's San Siro Stadium carried the theme "Armonia," reflecting harmony between countries, between man and nature. It began with a dance piece highlighting Roman myths and classical art, then moved into a pantomime about famous Italian composers, with Matilde de Angelis playing their conductor.

Dozens of performers joined on the central stage to represent music, color and Italian landmarks, forming a rainbow swirl that evoked the Italian artistic spirit. The loudest cheer came when Mariah Carey appeared center stage in a gown with shimmering embellishments and a white feathered stole, and began to sing in Italian.
