Mark Wahlberg's 2003 heist film The Italian Job remains a high point of his career 23 years later. Since that release he has appeared in over 45 films, added producing credits, earned an Oscar nomination, married and had four children, launched businesses, and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Yet of the more than 60 films he's starred in, only four have been sequels: Ted 2, Transformers: The Last Knight, Daddy's Home 2, and The Family Plan 2. The Italian Job brought together Charlize Theron, Jason Statham, Edward Norton, Seth Green, and the late Donald Sutherland for an ensemble thriller about a crew seeking revenge after a former member stole over $35 million worth of gold.

Critics and audiences praised its blend of comedy and high-stakes set pieces; the film grossed $176 million worldwide on an estimated $60 million budget and still draws comparisons to Ocean's Eleven. Talk of a follow-up, tentatively titled The Brazilian Job, circulated for years.
