Three episodes in, Marshals has opened the door for Kayce Dutton to move on from his troubled past. He’s settled into a new team that includes Belle Skinner, who isn’t exactly a newcomer — the latest episode teases her hidden past as Bozeman native Isabelle Turek.

Their brief recognition of one another and shared desire to keep teammates from digging into family histories has sparked fan speculation of a slow-burn romance, but the show would be wiser to avoid that path. A romantic turn would complicate Kayce’s efforts to rebuild after losing his wife, Monica, and to refocus on his son, Tate.

Belle already prioritizes her husband and son, and Pete "Cal" Calvin urges her to keep them foremost, especially given hints he failed to do the same. Pairing Kayce and Belle now would feel contrived and could undercut Belle’s chance to avoid the same pitfalls Cal has wrestled with.
