With CBS already renewing Marshals for a second season, episode 3, “Road to Nowhere,” widens the tensions between Montana locals and the people of Broken Rock while putting Kayce Dutton squarely in the middle. The episode opens with Belle (using her real name, Isabelle Turek) at a casino and two masked figures blowing up a road, the act that sparks the main conflict.

At Yellowstone East Camp, Rainwater is focused on stopping the mine that’s set to break ground, and at Marshals HQ Cal pushes Kayce to bond with the team through SEAL-style training. The situation turns volatile when trucks bound for the mine are rerouted through Broken Rock, tribal police seize the vehicles, and a standoff quickly erupts into violence.

Shots ring out at the blockade, a young girl is hit, and a rancher named Dom Moore is brought in for questioning before ballistics reveal three different rifles were fired. Kayce follows a suspicious truck into the forest as names surface: brothers Carson and Wes Clegg, who hold the blasting contract for the mine.
