Martin Short's daughter, Katherine, dead by apparent suicide at 42

Katherine Hartley Short, 42, died Monday in an apparent suicide, a representative for her father confirmed Tuesday. "It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short," the statement said. "The Short family is devastated by this loss, and asks for privacy at this time.

Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world." Law enforcement said she was found at her Hollywood Hills home with a self-inflicted gunshot wound around 6 p.m. local time. The Los Angeles Fire Department said, "At 6:41 p.m., we responded to a reported shooting at that address.

Death was reported of a female." The Los Angeles Police Department also confirmed the call. Katherine was the adopted daughter of the actor and his late wife, Nancy Dolman.
