Martino’s draws crowds at new Sloane Square brasserie
Martino’s, a hot new all-day Italian-leaning brasserie by Martin Kuczmarski in Sloane Square, was described as hectic one Saturday lunchtime late last year, with all tables booked, many walk-ins waiting and a charming reception area where front-of-house staff checked coats. The restaurant aims for old-school, glamorous escapism: white tablecloths, an ox-blood floor, candle-lit tables and an elegant central bar serving drinks such as a garibaldi or negroni sbagliato.
The menu is unpretentious and broad, described as suitable for family meals while also offering dishes such as tonno tonnato, tortellini in brodo (served with an extra jug of broth), house tagliatelle with braised short-rib ragu noted for pleasing chilli and parmesan, and a heavily breaded veal Milanese.
The reviewer found the branzino all’acqua pazza’s tomato sauce could “do with a bit more punch,” and singled out the crespelle al pistacchio as being sold “by the shedload,” while the torta al cioccolato was called a passably decent almond and cocoa sponge with dark chocolate mousse.
The reviewer expects Martino’s to settle in as a useful 2026 spot for glam pre-theatre dinners, gossipy evenings and a canteen for local residents. Martino’s is at The Willett Building, 37 Sloane Square, London SW1, 020-3908 7300. Open all week, lunch noon-2.30pm (last booking), dinner 5.30-10.30pm (10pm Sun; last booking).
