NetEase released Marvel Rivals, a live-service hero shooter, in 2024 despite significant risk, coming just months after PlayStation launched and then killed its similar game, Concord.

Publishing and marketing lead Yachen Bian said the team felt 'panic' stepping into the live-service graveyard and acknowledged success 'is not guaranteed'.

Rather than expect failure, the team set out to ensure it didn't step into the same pitfalls of the dead live-service shooters laying around its feet.
