Mary Carillo to Replace Savannah Guthrie at 2026 Olympics Opening Ceremony
Details reported by Nbc say TODAY co-anchor Savannah Guthrie pulled out of her scheduled co-hosting role at the 2026 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony after concerns related to her mother Nancy's possible abduction. On February 5, NBCUniversal announced longtime Olympic broadcaster Mary Carillo would serve as Guthrie's replacement.
Carillo is a familiar presence to Olympics viewers. The 68-year-old former professional tennis player is marking her 17th time in a broadcast booth for the Games and her 14th under NBCUniversal. She famously won the 1977 French Open mixed doubles tournament at age 20, has been a mainstay on NBC's tennis broadcasts, made her debut as a full-time Olympics host in 2004, and lived in Milan for two years during her childhood.
NBC said the network and team extend their support to Guthrie and her family and noted Carillo is one of the most experienced Olympic commentators. Live coverage of the Opening Ceremony begins Friday, February 6, at 2 p.m. ET with primetime at 8 p.m. ET/PT, simulcast on NBC and Peacock.
