Masked Figure Captured at Nancy Guthrie's Doorstep Before Abduction
On Tuesday, the F.B.I. and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department released images and videos showing a masked, armed person at Nancy Guthrie’s doorstep on the night she was abducted. The footage is the first significant break in the search for the 84-year-old mother of "Today" host Savannah Guthrie.
The black-and-white images depict someone wearing a ski mask, gloves and a backpack who appears to be carrying a holstered handgun. Investigators said the person was armed and was seen tampering with a camera next to the front door of the house just north of Tucson.
Police said the doorbell camera was disconnected at 1:47 a.m., and Ms. Guthrie’s pacemaker disconnected from her cellphone 41 minutes later, indicating she was taken from the home on Feb. 1.
Authorities described the images as the strongest pieces of evidence that might help identify a suspect in Ms. Guthrie’s abduction.
