Mason Greenwood misses penalty as Marseille lose to Brest
Mason Greenwood missed a penalty as Marseille lost 2-0 to Brest, a major blow to their Champions League hopes. The game was Habib Beye's first in charge after taking over from former manager Roberto De Zerbi amid a poor run of form in the French top flight.
Ludovic Ajorque scored an excellent brace, and Greenwood's chance to pull Marseille back came in the 82nd minute when he won a penalty; his weak attempt was well saved by Gregoire Coudet. Greenwood had seven shots in the match but only two were on target.
Marseille have now failed to win any of their last four matches, their longest winless streak in two years. They may be spared immediate damage by fifth-placed Lille's poor run—they have not won in five—but Lille could cut the gap to fourth with a win over Angers this weekend.
Greenwood has nonetheless been in fine form this season, scoring 14 goals and providing four assists in 20 Ligue 1 starts. Former boss De Zerbi added: “Now everyone can really appreciate Greenwood even more than before.”
