Marseille threw away a two-goal lead as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Strasbourg at the Stade Vélodrome, in the club’s first match since Roberto De Zerbi was relieved of his managerial duties. Frustrated supporters staged protests after the draw, with some attempting to gain access to presidential suites.

Mason Greenwood provided the spark for Marseille, breaking the deadlock inside 14 minutes and remaining a constant threat throughout the game. The former Manchester United forward, signed for £27 million ($37m) in the summer of 2024, has been a talismanic presence since joining and shared the Golden Boot in his debut campaign with Ousmane Dembélé.

This season Greenwood has already improved on his 22-goal return from 2024-25, registering 23 goals across all competitions. De Zerbi’s dismissal followed a run of inconsistent results, highlighted by a 5-0 loss to PSG in Le Classique and an early Champions League exit, with the coach said to have been frustrated by a lack of effort.
