Before it became one of Netflix’s steadiest crime-drama brands, The Lincoln Lawyer arrived as a smart, star-driven legal thriller just as Matthew McConaughey was shifting his career. The 2011 film is currently streaming for free on Fawesome. Directed by Brad Furman and adapted from Michael Connelly’s 2005 novel, the story follows Los Angeles defense attorney Mickey Haller, who works out of the back of his car and takes on a seemingly straightforward assault case that may tie back to a darker crime from his past.

The movie opened in March 2011 and went on to gross about $87 million worldwide against a reported $40 million budget. The cast is led by McConaughey as Mickey Haller, with Marisa Tomei, Ryan Phillippe, Josh Lucas and William H. Macy, and also features John Leguizamo, Michael Peña, Frances Fisher, Bob Gunton and Bryan Cranston.
