Arsenal secured three points and a moment of history as 16-year-old Max Dowman became the youngest goalscorer in the Premier League with a stoppage-time strike to make it 2–0 against Everton. Dowman had made his Premier League debut that season at 15 and at 16 years and 73 days he broke a record held for more than 20 years by Everton’s James Vaughan, being more than six months younger.

The goal came late at the Emirates with Arsenal leading 1-0 after Viktor Gyökeres’ opener. Everton pushed forward for a final corner and even goalkeeper Jordan Pickford joined the attack, but the set-piece was cleared straight to Dowman. Having come on in the 74th minute for Martin Zubimendi, the winger set off 25 metres from his own goal, left Everton’s remaining defenders behind and, accompanied by Gabriel Martinelli, slotted the ball into an empty net seconds later.

Gyökeres praised Dowman, saying: "It's incredible. He stays so calm and isn't afraid at all whenever he gets the ball.
