Lewis Pullman and Maya Hawke said they bonded over having famous parents while filming their new movie Wishful Thinking, speaking at the film’s world premiere at SXSW 2026 in Austin, Texas. "We had a lot more stuff to bond with, initially, and then, of course, we did end up talking about that," Pullman said.

Pullman added that they are "so similar in so many different ways," though they "had very different experiences" growing up. He is the son of Bill Pullman and Tamara Hurwitz; Hawke is the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke. The pair also connected over how they view the industry and their shared interest in music.

Hawke has previously acknowledged her parents’ influence, saying she "never meant to imply that I didn't get the part for nepotistic reasons — I think I totally did." She has called the idea of who "deserves" opportunities complicated. Pullman described himself as "undeniably fortunate," and noted that the hardest thing is getting chances to gain experience and become comfortable in front of the camera.
