McDonald’s said sales at U.S. restaurants open for a year or more rose 6.8 percent in the fourth quarter from a year earlier, and global same-store sales increased 5.7 percent. The quarter included the return of its popular Monopoly game and a limited-time Grinch meal deal that sold out rapidly in several locations.

The chain has leaned into value offerings to attract price-conscious customers, promoting items such as a $5 Sausage Egg and Cheese McGriddle and a 10-piece Chicken McNuggets meal for $8. Restaurants have faced a slowdown in eating out after two years of higher menu prices, with many lower-income and some middle-income consumers dining out less frequently.

"By listening to customers and taking action, we have improved traffic" and strengthened value affordability perceptions among customers, Chris Kempczinski, the company’s chief executive, said in a news release.
