Mega Man Voice Actor Drops Out After Being Asked To Work Non-Union
SAG-AFTRA has issued a "Do Not Work Order" against Mega Man: Dual Override after the producer "failed to initiate the signatory process" required to hire unionized actors. The DNWO was issued on March 9 and bars all members of the union from working on the game; doing so could potentially violate "Global Rule One," with consequences ranging from a hefty fine to expulsion.
Ben Diskin, who voiced Mega Man in Mega Man 11, announced he is "no longer the voice of Mega Man" and will not be reprising the role. Diskin said he had to refuse Capcom's offer because it required him to "work without the protections of a union contract." "With a broken Blue Bomber heart, I am no longer the voice of Mega Man," he wrote.
There is no official statement from Capcom explaining the decision. Diskin suggested the refusal to go union may relate to AI protections a SAG-AFTRA contract would require, saying, "I was told there are 'full A.I. protections in place that guarantee in writing that [my] voice will never be used for A.I.
