Melania documentary premieres at Kennedy Center with Trump allies in attendance
Amazon’s new documentary about the first lady, Melania Trump, had an invitation-only premiere at the Kennedy Center on Thursday night, attended by President Trump, the first lady and a range of right-wing influencers, Republican officials and members of Mr. Trump’s cabinet. Directed by Brett Ratner, the film follows Mrs.
Trump in the 20 days leading up to her husband’s second inauguration. Amazon mounted a $35 million marketing campaign for the movie, and Mrs. Trump’s production company was paid $40 million for the rights, the report says. Mrs. Trump is listed as a producer. Attendees at the Kennedy Center screening included Cabinet members and Republican leaders; the story names figures such as the secretary of health and human services, Robert F.
Kennedy Jr., Speaker Mike Johnson, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Linda McMahon, Pete Hegseth, Lee Zeldin, Doug Collins and others, along with cultural figures like Nicki Minaj and Mrs. Trump’s father, Viktor Knavs. The Kennedy Center premiere followed a smaller screening at the White House the prior weekend hosted by Mrs.
Trump, which drew people including Mike Tyson, Queen Rania of Jordan and several technology executives. Some attendees at that screening — including Apple’s chief executive, Tim Cook — were criticized for attending a glittering party the same day that Alex Pretti, a nurse at a Department of Veterans Affairs hospital, was killed by federal agents in Minneapolis, the report says.
