Messi likely to be rested as Inter Miami juggles multiple trophies

Lionel Messi is poised to be rested by Inter Miami at some stage in the not too distant future, with the MLS Cup winners eager to avoid making a "big mistake" while chasing down multiple trophies. The Herons are intent on defending their domestic crown in the United States, while continental silverware is available in Champions Cup and Leagues Cup competition.

Javier Mascherano says he will not prioritise one competition over another and plans to compete on all fronts, which will require regular rotation. He warned that the squad will need to be shuffled and that even Messi may be taken out of the firing line at times.

Mascherano added: "I think it would be a big mistake to choose which competitions to focus on. We’re a team that has to compete equally in every competition. For us, the Champions League in this first half of the season is a very important competition, and we’re going to give it that value.
