Vogue announced the 2026 Met Gala dress code as “Fashion Is Art,” linking it to the Costume Institute’s exhibition theme, “Costume Art,” an examination of “the centrality of the dressed body.” The dress code is meant to give context and invite varied interpretations of how the human form and fashion have informed one another.

Curator Andrew Bolton said, “What connects every curatorial department and what connects every single gallery in the museum is fashion, or the dressed body,” a broad prompt that leaves room for diverse responses on the red carpet. Beyoncé will return to the Met Gala after a decade away as one of three co-chairs, alongside Nicole Kidman and Venus Williams.

Anna Wintour will also serve as a co-chair. Benefit host committee co-chairs include Anthony Vaccarello and Zoë Kravitz, and the wider host committee features Teyana Taylor, Sabrina Carpenter, Misty Copeland and Lena Dunham, among others. Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos are honorary chairs and the event’s lead sponsors.
