Many Meta Ray‑Ban users wear the smart glasses everywhere to get notifications and record what they see. Contractors in Nairobi, Kenya, had access to sensitive videos recorded with Meta smart glasses around the world, including footage of people undressing, going to the bathroom, viewing financial information and engaging in intimate moments; some workers said they believed the majority of these videos were recorded when wearers did not know the glasses were recording.

The videos were reportedly viewed by contractors from Sama, a company Meta hired for AI development, as part of their assigned work. Human reviewers label objects in the footage and the data is later used to train Meta's AI. An investigation by Swedish newspapers Svenska Dagbladet (SvD) and Göteborgs‑Posten (GP) concluded the workers were unaware they would see sensitive videos among the captured data.

Like Google Glass, Meta's Ray‑Ban smart glasses have raised privacy concerns.
