Since launch the developers Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel have pushed a steady stream of fixes for Mewgenics, the latest arriving as patch 1.0.20870. Among the routine tweaks sits a memorable note: "Fixed case where a non-binary cat with dwarfism would crash the game if playing in Brazilian Portugese [sic]." Tyler Glaiel explained on X that the crash stemmed from the game's naming format.

Cats with dwarfism receive the modifier "Little," and in Portuguese that word is gendered, with separate male and female variants; no variant existed for cats with the game's "?" gender, so the game couldn't construct a name and crashed. The write-up also flags that calling these cats "non-binary" is shorthand, and that their mechanics might better resemble an intersex-like condition in this context.

The patch also rebalances the miniboss Arthur by limiting which spells his Metronome ability can generate.
