Michael B. Jordan: 'Movies Need to Be Seen on a Big Screen'
Movieweb reports Michael B. Jordan told The Hollywood Reporter he believes films should be seen on the big screen as debate grows over the Netflix–Warner Bros. deal.
Jordan, whose upcoming reboot of The Thomas Crown Affair is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios for another streaming service, said "Movies need to be seen on a big screen" and argued that the communal experience—laughing, crying and cheering together—is what makes films like Sinners, One Battle After Another and Marty Supreme "so great." He added that "as long as the care of film and cinema is a priority" that should be the priority for actors and directors, and called the business side "a little bit beyond me."
The Warner Bros.–Netflix acquisition has drawn criticism, and recent reports indicate Netflix may trim theatrical release windows to 17 days, a change some say could harm theaters and creators. Industry figures including James Cameron and Jack Black have voiced similar concerns—Cameron said he believes "there's something sacred about the movie-going experience," and Black asked, "Are we in the last days of theater?" What comes to fruition remains to be seen.
