Goal reports Manchester United are tipped to name Michael Carrick as the club's new interim manager by Wednesday, after weighing candidates including Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Darren Fletcher. Multiple reports on Monday afternoon say a deal is almost done and that final details are being ironed out, with talks moving on to who will make up Carrick's backroom team.

The Daily Mail quotes a 48-hour timeframe to an announcement that could potentially see Carrick lead the first training session on Wednesday when players return from a two-day holiday following the FA Cup loss to Brighton. Fabrizio Romano said Carrick has "accepted all conditions" of the proposed contract.

Darren Fletcher, who led the side in the most recent match, said building confidence in the squad will be a priority and warned players may need time to adjust from Ruben Amorim's 3-4-3 system; he told TNT Sports: "Confidence and potentially being used to playing a certain style and formation that's difficult to adapt from." The report also recalls Cristiano Ronaldo's previous public backing of Carrick during his 2021 caretaking spell.
