Xbox’s new gaming boss, Asha Sharma, revealed the codename for the company’s next console as Project Helix and said the hardware will play both Xbox and PC games. Sharma shared the news on X after a conversation with Team Xbox and posted a short teaser video with no further technical details.

The announcement arrives amid leadership changes, including Phil Spencer’s retirement and Sarah Bond’s resignation, and follows moves to release exclusives on other platforms and shift toward subscriptions and cloud streaming. Those shifts have raised questions about whether a new console will regain widespread attention.

Microsoft has framed Project Helix as a PC-centric vision that could unify storefronts across PC, console and mobile. The company previously promised a major technical leap for its next hardware and has experimented with that approach in devices like the ROG Ally X, though practical issues with Windows and cross-platform integration remain.
