Microsoft announces sweeping Windows changes but offers no apology
Microsoft acknowledged long-standing complaints about Windows 11 in a post titled "Our commitment to Windows quality" from Windows lead Pavan Davuluri, sent to Windows Insiders. The company laid out a list of changes that will begin appearing in preview builds starting this month and continue through the year, but it offered no timeline for when those changes will reach public releases.
Among the updates, Microsoft is adding more taskbar customization, including the ability to reposition it to the top or sides of the screen — a frequent request on the Feedback Hub that had more than 24,000 upvotes and over 2,100 comments. The company also said it will trim unnecessary Copilot entry points, starting with apps such as Snipping Tool, Photos, Widgets, and Notepad.
Microsoft promised more control over updates, with fewer automatic restarts and notifications, easier options to skip updates during setup, and longer pause windows.
