Mikel Merino sends upbeat hospital message after foot surgery
Mikel Merino has sent a positive message to Arsenal supporters after undergoing surgery on a fractured foot. The Spain midfielder has gone under the knife and faces a spell on the sidelines, but appeared in good spirits and will be hoping he can still play a part in Arsenal's 2025-26 season.
The injury was sustained in Arsenal's 3-2 Premier League defeat to Manchester United at the Emirates. Manager Mikel Arteta described it as "a very rare injury" and said they would have to wait and see how it reacts after surgery, adding: "I know Mikel is going to do absolutely everything that he possibly can to come back as quick as possible." Merino posted an update on Instagram: "Surgery done!
Already closer to be back. Thank you so much to everyone for your messages and love. It really gives me even more energy to face the challenge. Vamos!" There is no clear return date.
