Mikenley Brown's Ethereal Blind Audition Mesmerized The Voice
Mikenley Brown, 19, from New Castle, Indiana, performed a slowed-down version of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" on The Voice: Battle of Champions, leaning into her voice's natural quality and quickly earning chair turns from Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson and John Legend — a Triple Chair Turn.
"For my Blind Audition, I’m singing 'Teenage Dream' by Katy Perry," Brown said before taking the stage. "I’m making the song my own by starting it off a little slower. I’m adding some runs and I have a little bit more of a raspy voice than she does. People usually think that I’m a country artist, actually, and I’m not." Levine admitted, "I didn’t even recognize the song at first.
