Milan: latest on Leao’s renewal — Allegri had given his approval
Leao is back in the news for transfer-related matters. His nine league goals cannot salvage a season that has been inconsistent and below the standards Milan had grown accustomed to. Tension flared after the match against Lazio when he reacted theatrically to being substituted for Pulisic; Rafa apologised to Allegri and the squad, and a later handshake with Pulisic ended a saga that had been building on social media.
Allegri worked last summer to change Milan’s mindset, aiming to build a solid, united squad that strictly follows rules of conduct. So far Leao’s reaction is the only incident against that approach. At a late January meeting with Tare and Furlani, Allegri expressed support for extending Leao’s contract until 2031, and that stance had become clearer in the weeks that followed.
He also worked on a deep-lying block and a three-man defence, freeing up Modric and creating a two-man attack in which Leao would fit as a centre-forward.
