In the 67th minute of the Lazio v Milan match, with the home side leading 1-0, Max Allegri made a double substitution: Leao and Fofana were taken off, with Fullkrug and Nkunku coming on.

Leao did not take kindly to being substituted; he spoke to Maignan, who came over to try and calm him, then shook his head. As he left the pitch, Allegri tried to hug him, but the Portuguese player wriggled free. Leao said to Allegri: "Mister, leave me on, there are 20 minutes left."

Once on the bench, Leao kicked some small bottles. Caught on camera in the 84th minute, he sat on the bench still shaking his head.

After the match Allegri commented: "He was frustrated because there were moments when he could have been played in better. These things happen during a match. We wanted to win because, first and foremost, we wanted to extend our lead over the teams behind us. We need to stay calm and perform better in situations like those we saw in the first half."
