Milan must consider selling Leao
In the wake of Milan’s defeat at Lazio, Sandro Sabatini asks whether the club can continue to rely on Rafael Leao or should prepare for a season without him, using the funds from a sale to reinvest in the transfer market. The question follows the Portuguese forward’s disrespectful reaction to being substituted.
Wearing the number 10 shirt and earning the highest salary in the team, Leao clearly has more talent than many of his teammates. Yet his output is inconsistent: a few very good matches, some decent ones, many merely adequate and several performances well below par.
He is a player whose contribution is hard to predict. The episode at Lazio was underscored by teammates and staff trying to calm him down—Maignan attempted to soothe the situation and Allegri tried to placate him—while Tare, present in the stands, was not complimentary.
