A report from Nytimes says the opening ceremonies will take place at 2 p.m. Eastern on Friday across four separate venues in Northern Italy, which is 8 p.m. local time. NBC and Peacock will air the events live in the United States and will show them again at 8 p.m.; live streams will be available on mobile and tablet via the Peacock, NBC and NBC Sports apps.

Dozens of international broadcasters, including HBO Max (Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Norway, Sweden), the BBC and the CBC, will also carry the ceremonies. For the first time, two Olympic cauldrons will be lit simultaneously — one at Milan’s Arco della Pace and one in Cortina d’Ampezzo’s Piazza Dibona — with designs inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s knot engravings to symbolize "the harmony between nature and human ingenuity." There will be athlete parades across all four venues, and performers include Mariah Carey, Laura Pausini, Andrea Bocelli and Sabrina Impacciatore.

The ceremonies are expected to last about three hours. The Times notes athletes to watch include U.S.
