Minneapolis mayor demands ICE leave after federal agent fatally shoots woman
Time reported that the fatal shooting of a 37-year-old woman in Minneapolis by a federal immigration agent prompted Mayor Jacob Frey to demand ICE leave the city at a Wednesday afternoon press conference, saying, “I have a message for ICE: Get the f-ck out of Minneapolis. We do not want you here.” Video shared on social media shows agents approaching a car and one attempting to open the driver’s side door, the car briefly reversing before beginning to drive away, and another officer appearing to draw his firearm and fire multiple shots toward it.
Officials have not yet publicly identified the woman; police said she appears to be white and a U.S. citizen. The Department of Homeland Security said the ICE agents were acting in self-defense, with spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin calling the incident an act of domestic terrorism and saying an officer fired defensive shots after the vehicle was weaponized.
Local and state officials have rejected that explanation. Frey said he had seen video and called the self-defense claim “bull-sh-t,” saying the narrative that the shooting was done in self-defense is “a garbage narrative that is not true.” Democratic Gov. Tim Walz wrote on X, “I’ve seen the video.
