MLS bans Derrick Jones and Yaw Yeboah for betting on their own games
Major League Soccer has issued lifetime bans to Derrick Jones and Yaw Yeboah after finding they bet on numerous games, including matches in which they were playing, during the 2024 and 2025 seasons. Neither player is signed with an MLS club. An investigation conducted in part by law firm Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP examined a two-season period and identified instances of betting by both players.
MLS said one case involved both players wagering on Jones to receive a yellow card in the Columbus–Red Bulls fixture and determined the players had colluded to ensure he was booked. Both were placed on administrative leave in October 2025. "Major League Soccer remains steadfast in its commitment to match integrity," said MLS Commissioner Don Garber.
